After prolonged excruciating heatwaves, Delhi & Delhi NCR received incessant rainfall in the wee hours of June 28. However, the respite turned into tension as normal life was thrown out of gear shortly after the downpour.
Roads across the national capital have been inundated in water as Delhi lacks a smooth drainage system. From small cars to large trucks, visuals from different parts show how vehicles have sunk in water disrupting transit.
Several people were also trapped in inundated bus who were evacuated by rescue squad later. The helpless people were seen wading through knee-deep water to reach their workplaces and destinations.
The heavy rain also claimed a life and injured 6 as a portion of canopy at IGI airport collapsed following downpour. The incident caused temporary suspension of flights from terminal causing inconvenience to passengers.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Delhi will receive 'very heavy rainfall' till July 1. The national capital woke up to light rain on June 29, a day after it received the highest rainfall in a single day in June in 88 years, grinding normal life to a halt.
Several parts of the city continue to be waterlogged and many areas experienced prolonged power cuts as Delhi recorded 228.1 mm of rainfall in 24 hours on Friday.
