The people of Cozad and Gothenburg are dealing with cleanup after a severe hailstorm Saturday morning.

According to Dawson County Emergency Management Director Brian Woldt, the storm began at around 2 a.m. and lasted for 30 minutes. During that time, baseball-sized hail and wind caused extensive damage to Cozad, with a lesser amount of damage caused to Gothenburg.

Most of the damage was caused to individual home owners, with damage to car windows and households.

One person was caught out in the storm and transported to a local hospital.

People are currently in the process of cleaning up.

Due to damage caused by the storm, the Cozad Community Hospital diverted patients from their emergency department and closed their front entrance. A phone outage was also reported by the hospital.
