A fireball lit up the night sky about an hour and a half before dawn this morning, according to several reports and video footage captured by Maricopa residents.
Within just one minute — between 3 a.m. and 3:01 a.m. — a slew of reports from here and Phoenix, Casa Grande, Tucson, Willcox and Saint David were all sent to the American Meteor Society.
Heritage district resident Mario Campos shared footage from a home security camera of the meteor with InMaricopa, which shows the fireball sail by, followed by a large flash:

A bright flash and then a loud boom filled the sky over Stockton this past weekend. People, officials and even experts are stumped by what might've caused this.
It rattled homes, and several people called the police about it. However, there was no explanation for the bizarre boom.
"All of a sudden, there was this loud whoomph and it sounded like something hit the house," Misha Taylor said.
Taylor was half asleep in her home when she heard the loud boom and thought something bad had happened.
Cameras from Clima ao Vivo and the Heller & Jung Space Observatory recorded an explosive meteor that streaked across the sky of some cities in Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul on Thursday night (18).
This video shows a bright bolide recorded over Spain on April 18, at 3:13 local time (equivalent to 1:13 universal time). The event was generated by a rock (a meteoroid) from an asteroid that hit the atmosphere at about 95,000 km/h. The fireball overflew the province of Badajoz (Spain). It began at an altitude of about 89 km over the locality of Alconera (province of Badajoz), moved northeast, and ended at a height of around 35 km over the locality of Calamonte (province of Badajoz).
This bright meteor was recorded in the framework of the SMART project, operated by the Southwestern Europe Meteor Network (SWEMN) from the meteor-observing stations located at Huelva, La Hita (Toledo), Calar Alto, Sierra Nevada, La Sagra (Granada), and Sevilla. The event has been analyzed by the team headed by Dr. Jose M. Madiedo (principal investigator of the SMART project), from the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC).
History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.
