Math is racist! Requiring a correct answer is oppressive!

math racist politically correct black child math lesson
This is actually a claim that is being made often these days: the sciences in general, and math in particular, are racist. The latest comes from Oregon:
The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) recently encouraged teachers to register for training that encourages "ethnomathematics" and argues, among other things, that White supremacy manifests itself in the focus on finding the right answer.

An ODE newsletter sent last week advertises a Feb. 21 "Pathway to Math Equity Micro-Course," which is designed for middle school teachers to make use of a toolkit for "dismantling racism in mathematics."
How can mathematics possibly be racist?

Comment: Perhaps the real reason is bad instruction. It's almost unfair to blame the teachers entirely, having been marinated in critical race theory all their higher educational lives, to the point where they can no longer think properly.

Fox News reports:
The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) recently encouraged teachers to register for training that encourages "ethnomathematics" and argues, among other things, that White supremacy manifests itself in the focus on finding the right answer.

Part of the toolkit includes a list of ways "white supremacy culture" allegedly "infiltrates math classrooms." Those include "the focus is on getting the 'right' answer," students being "required to 'show their work,'" and other alleged manifestations.

"The concept of mathematics being purely objective is unequivocally false, and teaching it is even much less so," the document for the "Equitable Math" toolkit reads. "Upholding the idea that there are always right and wrong answers perpetuate objectivity as well as fear of open conflict."

An associated "Dismantling Racism" workbook, linked within the toolkit, similarly identifies "objectivity" -- described as "the belief that there is such a thing as being objective or 'neutral'" -- as a characteristic of White supremacy.

Instead of focusing on one right answer, the toolkit encourages teachers to "come up with at least two answers that might solve this problem."

It adds: "Challenge standardized test questions by getting the 'right' answer, but justify other answers by unpacking the assumptions that are made in the problem."

It also encourages teachers to "center ethnomathematics," which includes a variety of guidelines. One of them instructs educators to "identify and challenge the ways that math is used to uphold capitalist, imperialist, and racist views."

"The framework for deconstructing racism in mathematics offers essential characteristics of antiracist math educators and critical approaches to dismantling white supremacy in math classrooms by visualizing the toxic characteristics of white supremacy culture," the toolkit reads before linking to both the workbook and a paper on "white supremacy culture."

The toolkit adds that "building on the framework, teachers engage with critical praxis in order to shift their instructional beliefs and practices toward antiracist math education. By centering antiracism, we model how to be antiracist math educators with accountability."

In one section of the "Dismantling Racism" workbook, the argument is made that "only white people can be racist in our society, because only white people as a group have that power." Another section seems to justify anti-cop sentiments.

"In some cases, the prejudices of oppressed people ('you can't trust the police') are necessary for survival," it reads.

US Navy goes woke: Forces sailors to commit to 'all lived experiences and intersectional identities'

The stated mission of the formation of the task force was "to address the issues of racism, sexism and other destructive biases and their impact on naval readiness."

In June 2020, the Navy created Task Force Navy One, which was "established to combat discrimination in the Navy." The recently released findings of the task force include the TF1N Pledge, in which members of the task force take a pledge to inclusivity and self-reflection.

The pledge reads:
"As a key member of Task Force One Navy I will invest the time, attention and empathy required to analyze and evaluate Navywide issues related to racism, sexism, ableism and other structural and interpersonal biases.

"I pledge to be actively inclusive in the public and private spheres where I live and work, and proactively encourage others to do the same.

"I pledge to advocate for and acknowledge all lived experiences and intersectional identities of every Sailor in the Navy.

"I pledge to engage in ongoing self-reflection, education and knowledge sharing to better myself and my communities.

"I pledge to be an example in establishing healthy, inclusive and team-oriented environments.

"I pledge to constructively share all experiences and information gained from activities above to inform the development of Navywide reforms."

Comment: The madness continues. While the conclusions of the report sound benign (who wouldn't want to promote 'Respect for self, for service and our fellow shipmates') the woke mentality lurking behind those pronouncements will twist them into the most absurd outcomes. Give it time.

The health ministry has said over 84,800 vaccinations against the coronavirus were carried out on Saturday and a total of three people, who had received vaccinations in the recent past, died in the past 24 hours. Deaths reported so far in cases where vaccination has been conducted to date is 27, it said.

The health ministry also maintained that no case of serious or adverse event following the immunization is related to the vaccination. "No case of serious or severe Adverse event following immunization (AEFI) or death has been attributable to vaccination till date," the health ministry said.

Comment: 'No severe adverse events'? Death seems to be pretty severe. And it's not just in India that deaths have been reported following these experimental vaccines: At least twenty-three people die in Norway within days of receiving Pfizer coronavirus vaccine

The vaccination drive against the coronavirus picked up the pace on Saturday as many beneficiaries who had received their first shots on day one of the exercises four weeks ago turned up to get their second dose. The second dose of the coronavirus vaccine is being given after a gap of 28 days.

Comment: Note that India rejected the Pfizer vaccine because of a lack of safety data.

As fears rise over San Francisco-area attacks on elderly Asians by black assailants, leftists find the real culprit: white people

The Lunar New Year passed in the San Francisco Bay area with fears rising over a series of unprovoked attacks on elderly Asians by black men, but leftists may have found some solace by finding the real perpetrators: white people.

As Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Viet Thanh Nguyen explained, Asians shouldn't respond to the horrific attacks with "knee-jerk" calls for more policing but must instead recognize the violence as "part of a pattern of white supremacy." Even if the assailants are "people of color," he added, "the solution is not to fall back on racist assumptions of our own but to hold the system of white supremacy responsible for dividing us."

Despite his literary talents, Nguyen apparently missed the irony in the notion of avoiding "racist assumptions" by blaming people of a certain skin color for the attacks - in this case, people of a different skin color than those involved in the incidents - but he wasn't alone in identifying whites as the problem.

Manju Kulkarni, executive director of the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council, told NPR that "xenophobic policies and racist rhetoric" pushed by former president Donald Trump was behind the violence. Oakland City Council President Nikki Fortunato Bas told local Fox TV affiliate KTVU that crimes against Asians and "anti-blackness" are both on the rise "because we live in a system rooted in white supremacy."

Comment: We live in a neoracist clown world where people actually believe that white supremacy is the root of all problems, that it exists everywhere, that everyone be default is a white supremacist until they are initiated into the ranks of the Woke (and even then must pay their dues by constantly their own white supremacy). If you disagree, you are a white supremacist. If you're black and disagree, you're suffering from multiracial whiteness. If you're Asian, well, you're just white. The inmates have taken over the asylum.

A white, male professor at the University of New Hampshire has resigned after being accused of pretending to be a female immigrant of color and operating an anonymous Twitter account that was used to make racist and sexist comments, the university announced.

The university has not named the professor, but confirmed that a faculty member resigned Friday after a four-month investigation.

"While we are limited in what we can say in order to protect the privacy of all involved, we can share that the faculty member chose to resign when the university concluded that the conduct exhibited was not consistent with the university's values and our expectation that every faculty member contribute to a professional academic environment free of intimidation and harassment," the university's president James Dean Jr. said in a statement.

Ways biometric security can be spoofed

Remember when you were a kid and you tried to imagine what the world was going to look like in the far off, sci-fi sounding year of 2021? What did you imagine? Weekend holidays to the moon? Flying cars and jetpacks to take you around the elevated cities? Robot butlers? The end of all diseases? Star Trek-style replicators and holodecks?

Well, snap out of it, kid. This is what 2021 really looks like:
Facial Recognition
© Corbett ReportSheeple lines up for the slaughter.
In case you didn't know, that's the handy-dandy contactless facial recognition gate from NEC. Yes, you don't have to worry about fiddling with your mask to allow your algorithmic overlord to scan your face and allow you entry to a building, terminal or security perimeter anymore! Thanks to the good folks at NEC, you can now maintain your social distancing and be electronically tracked and herded like the pliable tax cattle you are without even taking your mask off!

"But what about those poor souls living in third world nations?" I hear you asking. Never fear! Thanks to the non-profit Simprints Technology (in partnership with Gavi, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, USAid and other benevolent philanthropic institutions), there are contactless biometric scanners for them, too! Simprints' biometric solution allows governments to more effectively tag and track their human property, issue them an electronic brand, and make sure they get processed through the system all without having to come within six feet of another human being!

But there's just one little thing to consider in this headlong rush to get the entirety of the human species' biometric details entered into the computer matrix: biometric systems are notoriously buggy, hackable and open to spoofing. But why let a little identity theft get in the way of the New Biometric Normal, eh?

Still, for those who insist, here's a break down of just five of the ways that this biometric scanning technology can be hacked, gamed, spoofed or tricked.

Britain's Home Secretary Priti Patel is no fan of the 'Black Lives Matter' movement, and her latest anti-BLM declaration, in which she called the demonstrations "dreadful," has ignited a storm of controversy online.

Speaking to London-based radio station LBC on Friday, Patel told host Nick Ferrari that she wouldn't "take the knee" for the Black Lives Matter movement, as so many professional athletes, entertainers, and even politicians are wont to do.

"No I would not, I would not have at the time either. There are other ways in which people can express their opinions," Patel said. "Protesting in the way in which people did last summer was not the right way at all."

Coronavirus likely here to stay - EU health agency chief

The coronavirus will probably continue to circulate long-term despite the roll-out of vaccines, the head of the EU's ECDC health agency told AFP on Friday, urging Europe to keep its restrictions in place for now.

"It seems more likely that it would stay" than disappear, Andrea Ammon, the head of the Stockholm-based European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, said in an interview.

"It seems very well adapted to humans. So we should be prepared that it will remain with us," she added.
