Manipur: Hail storm causes extensive damage in Imphal
A heavy downpour accompanied by a cyclonic hailstorm struck Manipur at around 1.30 pm on Sunday (May 5), leaving behind a trail of destruction in the Northeast state.

The hailstorm that lasted for nearly 15 minutes caused extensive damage to homes and uprooted trees in the Imphal valley. The hailstorm was so intense that it left parts of the valley covered with 4-5 inches of hail.

The downpour led to several roads in the Imphal city being waterlogged. An uprooted tree fell on an auto rickshaw damaging it partially.

Dozens of birds were seen lying dead on the streets due to the impact of the hailstorm.

Taking to social media platforms, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh issued an "Urgent Assistance Alert," providing helpline numbers in each district of the state.

"In the wake of the recent hailstorm impacting several areas across Manipur, our priority is ensuring swift assistance for those in need. To extend support, we've established helpline numbers in various districts," the CM Singh wrote.
